As a Handy Mom, I often find random things that save money but I also don't like messes laying around in random spots or things falling out of shelves or cupboards. So I found a little item at the local 99 Cent Only Store and Instantly thought "HEY I KNOW WHAT I CAN DO".
Have you ever just had something that you had as a habit for cleaning? I think it is safe to say we all have our favorite products to use. Well, one of my favorite items was "Handi-Wipes" made by Clorox. Easy to Reuse about 15 times (roughly 1 per week) before tossing out is what they pride themselves on. As a handy mom, I also tend to use these in the garage with a little bit of Lava Soap or GOJO Cream to get the gunky mechanic grease off my hands. Use and toss- great simple concept for the smaller projects in my opinion.
You may even find a bucket at some stores called Scrubs in a Bucket seen here:
I actually love the function of a wipes dispenser. Grab one and go. Anyone who either has children or babysits would agree that a dispenser function is the thing that minimizes messes.
So I thought of something I have never actually done before. While I was in the kitchen the other day, I had used the last of a Clorox Wipes Container and went to throw it in the recycle bin. Instead something told me to put it on the counter and so I went to the store on Monday and found something that triggered what I had just done that morning.
Handi-wipes in a roll? 0.99 cents? WHAT!!! hmmmmm
I had an idea and told myself to grab a roll and try it. So here was my project:
First I removed the Inside Roll Cardboard. Yeah, you know, the one everyone gets annoyed at on toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. Well here on the roll, it's only in my way, so I pushed it out from one end out to the other side, pulling it out completely.
I made sure the Wipes Container was cleaned out, label removed, and also dry. There is NO point to put dry wipes in a container unless you intend to pour cleaner over it if you are not going to dry it. While this project was a simply to do item for dry wipes, I suppose you could also pour over your favorite cleaner. Mine would be Concentrated Lemon Lysol. Something to try later, maybe. It is certainly an idea.
It may be a slightly tight fit getting it in but once in, pull from the middle and place in the dispenser loop. Voila. My great grandmother used to say- keep it stupid simple and keep it simple stupid. That always meant, don't make it more complicated than it needs to be.
1. Clean and dry the Container
2. pull the roll cardboard out of the dry wipes roll
3. put the roll in the Container.
4. pull from the middle and place in the dispenser
5. VOILA- DONE- You now have a dry wipes dispenser.
I labeled it to get no confusion with the Clorox Wet Wipes. Easy Peasy!
You can do it too. Just re-use a Wipes container. Even if you usually buy wipes from Dollar Tree, this is super easy and a good way to stretch your money. No more $15 buckets and no more $6 for 3 dry wipes.
I really don't like ways of life that are not only wasteful but that break the pocket. We all have our habits and likes and don'ts. But what I strive for is stretching dollars where possible so my family can benefit the most out of the savings that are made. No I can't afford to go lots of places, but when I do go places, I make sure funds are diverted by little tricks and DIY fixes like this that make my life simpler because at the end of it, the money I didn't spend will go to my family in other ways.
Life is about keeping it simple, even when life tries to be complicated.
Minimize waste, and apply some common sense. Keep it simple!
