Did you ever wonder if your safety was at risk just for answering your door? What about your children? Are they safe when you the parent answers the door? This is a plight shared by Delaware State Police of not one but three cases currently under investigation in Dover, Delaware.
I have been asked to share a warning and awareness plea to all Delawarians to please pay attention when answering your door, to know your rights and to know who to contact when in need.
The current investigation underway is the task of catching three persons impostering roles as Child Welfare Workers with the intent to take your child into their custody. The problem begins when a caucasian woman knocks on the door. She declares she is a CPS worker. She stands there with two large men in stature who are armed with weapons- all of them in “plain clothes”. Funny- last I checked the proper acronym for Delaware Child Protection Agencies was actually DFS for Division of Family Services.
The storyline can be found here as released by Delware News station for a basic synopsis of what occurred this past Friday.
Delaware State Police Sergeant of the Desk of Troop 3 has confirmed that this is not an Isolated incident and in fact informed a Restoring Families Internet Radio Producer Brian Lee that in fact there are three current open cases of this nature. The Investigators direct contact number is 1-302-698-8453. Crimestoppers in Delaware is also available for anyone with tips or information that may lead to an arrest. Contact Delaware Crimestoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online at
Of significant concern to note is that each incident describes the woman knowing the adult’s children’s names and specificaly asking to see them to check on their welfare. All three persons have refused to provide Identification and credentials and were quick to flee the scene. It is not specified whether the homes were “cased” or whether their social media had been monitored but in each incident the parent or adult in question stated the same M-O modus operandi for these posers. Each incident recalled the two waist armed men taking pictures of their property including vehicles. State Police have asked that anyone with information please contact the lead investigator as soon as possible for any potential information or to document that you may believe you have been an attempted target as well.
The assailants descriptions are described by Sergeant of the Desk as follows:
Suspect #1: White female, 30 years of age, wearing a blue suit and operating a white, Nissan sedan.
Suspect #2: Middle aged white male, wearing an all-black button down shirt.
Suspect #3: Black male, 20 years of age, light complexion, wearing a black short-sleeved shirt, black pants and a black baseball cap. Both male suspects fled in a black, Chevrolet Tahoe.
We will not significant stressors on the fact that one mother who knew her rights, she also knew that CPS was called DFS in her state. She knew that to speak to a child, she had a right to demand a warrant and she had a right to demand to see their identification, their credentials and to demand a supervisors phone number to verify their validity as social workers. Failing to acquiesce to requests, this mother called he police immediately and these posers fled the scene in the white sedan and black Tahoe.
State Police are asking all persons not just in Delaware but in all states to please keep your eyes open and be attentive to who is claiming to be at your door.
They believe this incident may be related to a string of human trafficking victims however they will not confirm whether they have potential suspects identified. No plate numbers for either vehicle have been provided for public release as of yet.
The investigation is ongoing. Please be on alert wherever you are.
If in Delaware, DFS has released their hotline number as a means to verify the authenticity of any visit to your home and the authenticity of the person standing before you. That number is 1-800-292-9582.
Know your rights as a citizen and especially as a parent.
