TSA violates Type 1 Diabetic Patients @ Checkpoints
This just in:
A type 1 diabetic just very recently had their CGM Dexcom ripped off their body and transmitter broken open by TSA and insulin pump yanked on at checkpoint.
Agent was advised by a 1.5 hours early arrived traveler that they had insulin equipment physiologically attached to their body and would need a pat down instead of being damaged by the scanners. Being irritated the TSA pulled them over to secondary and told them they had to break open the devices because “they were carrying a controlled explosive device”. Traveler gave medical paperwork for traveler. Agent refused to listen. Traveler asked for a supervisor. By this time Other agents were called over to assist. At which time this cruel “pat down” yanked and ripped these devices from their abdomen, broke their transmitter and looks to now need a full replacement of a $6500 pump because of the incident.
TSA HEADQUARTERS commented that the best they could do was send the TSA Agents off to a one day paid training, apologize for their agent’s bad behavior and they reserved the right to file a reimbursement claim for the “property damage”.
Are these people fucking stupid? What part of these things are attached to your body do they not comprehend? What about a colostomy bag, a Port site, catheters, Bionic prosthetics, and other applicable attachments? What about braces around body parts that physically hold people’s body together.
My grandmother before she died would say she would never again use Domestic Flights after the poor treatment received toward her injuries and body braces holding her leg together with ZERO knee present due to a long ago Firestone Blowout that caused fire and injury, literally blowing out her knee completely. She lived with a leg brace as knee replacement was not an option due to her Parkinson’s. They made her remove the brace, stand away from her wheelchair and forced her to walk without a knee. This is absolutely cruel. Never again would she travel after that incident.
I have personally had a poor experience with TSA and inappropriate groping of breasts by both male and female agents at Reagan National in Alexandria, Virginia and henceforth I have never gone on a plane travel via domestic airports ever since nor will I. “Training for a day”? Absolutely hell no. My passport will only be used for travel walking or driving across either southern or northern border for Tourist purposes.
Absolutely disgusted at this news. I can only imagine the future I will see of this happening to loved ones in my life, people who much closer have received poor receipt and acceptance in their own community, even at local restaurants.
Travel across the USA? Damn I guess I’m in for some driving huh? Road trips are beautiful. Been there done that.
